ABOUT THE EVENT
A 12-year-old scaled his first mountain as part of a nonprofit summer camp and grew up to connect communities of color with local green spaces. A restauranteur realized how difficult it was to secure responsibly grown produce and decided to cultivate a regional food system so that everyone can afford to eat good food. Black and brown students dreamed of dancing onstage and partnered with a local nonprofit to start a pre-professional dance school that they could attend together.
Read alone, these individual stories make us feel good. Read together, they help us recognize that the society we live in is for us to shape—and that progress is already being made. It is easy to only read the headlines that focus on anxious and fearful feelings; there is no shortage of them. Yet, there are stories like those above from local changemakers filled with meaning and substance, energizing us to do more. And only what we give our attention to can grow.
Community Changemakers is a place for you to meet your nonprofit neighbors, including the organizations responsible for those stories we shared! Throughout the evening, speak with 60+ local nonprofits, hear their stories, and share your own. We hope you join us on Wednesday, October 30, at 6pm to decide what your story will be.
